The 73rd World Health Assembly opened on the 18th. Director-General of the World Health Organization Tan Desai once again called for global solidarity and cooperation in the fight against the newly crowned epidemic, saying that the world does not lack the tools, science or resources needed to fight the epidemic. What is lacking is a sustained commitment to the use of these tools, science and resources.
Tan Desai said in his speech at the conference that the new crown epidemic is a major health crisis of our time. Every country and organization must evaluate its response to the epidemic and draw lessons from it. He once again called on the whole world to unite to fight against the epidemic, citing 40 years ago, when countries jointly eradicated smallpox under the leadership of WHO, as an example, he pointed out that "when unity triumphs over ideology, everything is possible".
Tandesai pointed out that human beings need a healthier, safer and fairer world than ever before, so they need a stronger WHO more than ever before.
Affected by the new crown epidemic, the WHO Conference will be held for the first time in the form of a video conference to make arrangements for global solidarity against the new crown virus. According to the agenda of the conference, the original five-day session was shortened to less than two days. In addition to statements by WHO Director General Tan Desai and other specially invited spokesmen, the conference will also focus on the current development of the new crown epidemic and global anti-epidemic actions, and adopt resolutions on issues such as the research and development of new crown virus vaccines and drugs, anti-epidemic materials, the source of virus animals and the routes of transmission to human beings, and the economic and social impacts caused by the epidemic.
